Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico “cannot take place” in 2021

The challenges of putting on races in 2021 continues for Ironman. Yesterday they announced that Ironman 70.3 Oceanside would be postponed until October. Now we have the news that Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico won’t happen at all in 2021.

“In light of the guidelines and restrictions as part of the updated executive order from the Governor of Puerto Rico, and in alignment with local officials, we regret to inform that 2021 Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico triathlon cannot take place and will now return on March 20, 2022,” the company posted on its updates page.

The 2022 race will serve as a qualifying race for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, New Zealand on Dec. 10 and 11.

Last month Ironman also announced that its South African events were also going to be postponed to the fall. The 70.3 race was moved from Jan. 24 to Sept. 5. The full-distance event, which serves as Ironman’s African Champinoship, has been moved from Mar. 14 to Nov. 21.
