Indoor gatherings with no more than ten people and a maximum of 25 people allowed for outdoor gatherings are the new rules that have been put in place this week in Hawaii. Hawaii – and thus also Kona – is currently facing a strict lockdown, mostly as a result of fear over the newest Delta variant. It also creates uncertainty about whether the Ironman World Championship can go ahead as planned on Oct. 9, 2021.

Although it seems likely that they will make an exemption to the rule when it comes to this event, the travel restrictions will be another problem. For numerous nationalities, it is currently impossible to enter Hawaii, while others need to go into a ten-day quarantine after their arrival.
