World Triathlon announced that the nomination process for the new Athletes Committee is open until Oct. 7, 2021. Any athlete who’s over 18 years of age and has been part of the World Triathlon Rankings or World Triathlon Para Rankings over the past four years, is up for election.

“The role of athletes in the decision-making process of World Triathlon has been a fundamental principle of our organization since its creation in Avignon, France, 1989,” World Triathlon states in a press release. “The inclusion of two members of the Athletes’ Committee on the World Triathlon Executive Board has strengthened the role of the athletes and is an integral part of our continued success as an International Federation striving to be ‘athlete centered’.”

The Athletes Committee currently revolves around five athletes of each gender, in which all five continents need to be represented. Two athletes in total should be para triathletes, one from each gender. The other eight shall be half male and half female elite athletes.

The candidates must be elected by National Federations. The voting process will take place from Oct. 11 to Nov. 2, 2021. On Nov. 4, 2021, the new members of the Athletes Committee will be announced via a press release.
