Flora Duffy wins the 2019 Xterra World Championship

Xterra has announced that it will hold its world championship race in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii on Dec. 4 and 5, 2021. The Xterra Trail Run World Championships will also take place on the same weekend. Last year’s events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Ironman had to postpone its October world championship event due to restrictions placed on events because of the pandemic.

Athletes and adult spectators will have to be vaccinated or have a negative test for COVID-19 within 72 hours of the event. The Xterra World Championships will be limited to 500 athletes, while the Trail Run World Championship will be limited to 1,000 athletes.

The Xterra World Championships includes a 1,500 m swim, a 31-km mountain bike ride that includes 1,500 feet of climbing through the West Maui Mountains and a 10.5 km run over forest trails and sandy beaches. The Trail Run world championship includes a Keiki K, 3.3 km, 5 km, 10km and half-marathon (21.1 km) events.
