Athletes and adult spectators will have to be vaccinated or have a negative test for COVID-19 within 72 hours of the event. The Xterra World Championships will be limited to 500 athletes, while the Trail Run World Championship will be limited to 1,000 athletes.
The Xterra World Championships includes a 1,500 m swim, a 31-km mountain bike ride that includes 1,500 feet of climbing through the West Maui Mountains and a 10.5 km run over forest trails and sandy beaches.
