“We are really excited about the addition of an Ironman 70.3 race in Swansea as our athletes have been eagerly anticipating the establishment of such an event in Wales for some time. Swansea was an obvious choice with its outstanding natural beauty and a thriving tourist destination, catering to both internationals and locals alike.” Ironman just added a new race in the UK to the calendar: Ironman 70.3 Swansea (Aug. 7, 2022).
In a press release, Ironman continues to say it hopes the event will give a boost to triathlon within the region of Wales, just like Ironman Wales did. Athletes will get to enjoy the seaside at Swansea Bay, Mumbles and the Gower Peninsula, as they give it their all in this beautiful scenery of rolling green hills.
The Middle Distance event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 7. The day before – on Saturday Aug. 6 – the same organization will host a World Triathlon Para Series event in Swansea, which is part of a whole week of para athletic events.
Participants in Ironman 70.3 Swansea will complete their 1900-meter swim at the Prince Wales Dock, before they head out for a 90k one-loop bike ride. On their way, they will pass by the coastal town of Mumbles, Gower’s cliffs and bike through Rural Swansea before they get back into Swansea Bay and make their way to T2, which is located at the Maritime Quarter. The half-marathon will take place in the city center, past the Swansea Arena, towards Mumbles and back to celebrate the finish line party at Marina.
