Super League Triathlon and World Triathlon have teamed up and will start a new series of esport events – Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift – according to a release from Super League Triathlon today. The new series will give “opportunities to ranked athletes and national federations to participate and pursue the official world championship title.”

The Super League Arena Games were first held in Rotterdam in August, 2020 and featured a pool swim followed by bike and run legs done on the Zwift platform. This year there were two events – London and Rotterdam.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic there’s been an increased interest in esports racing, with the UCI implementing a world championship and the IOC developing its own Olympic Virtual Series.

“World Triathlon and Super League will collaborate on all aspects of Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift, including scheduling, participating athletes, involvement of national federations, promotion, broadcasters, host venues and amplifying the reach of the events,” according to today’s statement. “The first series will be announced shortly, with the first official World Champions set to be crowned in 2022.”
