Xterra names Josiah Middaugh to Hall of Fame

Arguably the greatest American Xterra athlete ever, Xterra has named Josiah Middaugh as the 14th inductee to the Xterra Hall of Fame. During his impressive career Middaugh took 36 Xterra titles, won 15 Xterra US National Championships and won the Xterra world title in 2015. He finished as the top American at the Xterra World Championship 12 times and, at the age of 43, even led this year’s race before eventually finishing sixth.

Middaugh had to side-stroke through the swim at his first Xterra event in 2000, but by 2002 was the fastest amateur at the Xterra National Championship and won his age group at the Xterra worlds in Maui that year. He turned pro in 2003, taking third in Maui in his rookie pro season.

It would appear that the Middaugh legacy is likely to continue in the Xterra world – his son Sullivan took the 15 to 19 division at the Xterra worlds, while his son Porter won the same age category at the Xterra Trail Run World Championship 21 km. Middaugh’s daughter, Larsen, was second in the 10 to 14 division of the Xterra 3.3K Trail Run that weekend, while wife Ingrid was second in her division of the Xterra 10K.
