On Aug. 20 and 21, 2022, the second edition of the Collins Cup will take place in Samorin, Slovakia. This time, not only the pro’s will battle each other, but also Age Groupers get the chance to go all out on this course. The Professional Triathletes Organization appointed Challenge Family as the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the event.
Alongside the pro’s that will race in teams – Team USA, Team Europe and Team International – for a prize purse of 1.5 million dollar, now also Age Groupers get to enjoy 100 km of racing in and around Samorin. The distance will be divided into 2000 meters of swimming, 80 km of cycling and 18 km of running. For those who’d rather race only one of these three disciplines, there is also a relay format available. The pro’s will race on Saturday and the Age Group event will take place on Sunday.
While in 2021 the Collins Cup took place together with Challenge Family the Championship, in 2022 the events will be organized separately. For the Collins Cup we will have to wait until the end of August, but Challenge Family The Championship is already scheduled for May 22.
PTO’s CEO Sam Renouf commented to be excited to work together with Challenge Family and x-bionic sphere – the host venue – for the next edition of the Collins Cup. “Our very first Collins Cup last year showcased our tremendous professionals to a cumulative global audience of close to 7 million triathlon fans across live and highlights with close to 1000 hours of broadcast coverage aired live and on demand in over 165 countries, 22 languages, covering 400 million households. We are thrilled that so many people around the world consumed the inaugural Collins Cup. By staying in Samorin at the x-bionic sphere, we can utilize our learnings and deliver an even better event broadcast to build a wider fan base.”
Challenge Family CEO, Jort Vlam said: “We are delighted to be appointed as the LOC for the Collins Cup in year two, building on the success of last year’s inaugural event. The host venue of x-bionic sphere is Challenge Family’s second home, and our expertise at delivering world-class triathlons at this venue is unrivalled. Our commitment to #allabouttheathlete will ensure both age group and elite racing will provide the best experience possible for all athletes. With some positive changes made to the course and format, we are very much looking forward to working with the PTO and x-bionic sphere to help take triathlon to a global audience.”
