Challenge Wanaka won’t be taking place this month, but still athletes get to enjoy the beauty of New Zealand by virtually racing the event. On Feb. 19 (Feb. 18 for most European, American, and African countries) Challenge Family will host their first virtual race simulation on Rouvy. The platform will provide athletes with a 3D animation that gives you the feeling as if you’re actually cycling through New Zealand’s Southern Alps.

While riding these 90 tough km from the comfort of your own home, you get to measure yourself against world-class triathletes like Olympic bronze medalist Hayden Wilde and Rebecca Clarke.

Jort Vlam, Challenge Family CEO, said: “As our longest standing race outside of Roth, it was a real shame to see Challenge Wanaka cancelled due to COVID-19, despite the team’s best efforts. However, it is fitting that Challenge Family’s first international race is now the first virtual race, again making history. Our partnership with Rouvy opens the world’s borders and allows everyone to race this spectacular course. Rouvy’s real-life footage really captures why this is one of the world’s most scenic triathlons.”

The race kicks off on Feb. 19 at 09:00 local New Zealand time (9 PM CET, Feb. 18). Athletes who are not yet registered on the platform, receive a two-week free trial.
