Katie Zaferes: ‘Going from pride and happiness to sadness and frustration happened so quickly’

Katie Zaferes won the World Triathlon Cup Vina del Mar last Sunday, were it not for the fact that she was disqualified a few hours later for running a small part of the course the wrong way. Gwen Jorgensen – and some others as well – filed a protest directly after the race, was vindicated and was thus the new winner.

“I thought my biggest mistake was in T2, only to find out after the finish I had made a much bigger mistake and went the wrong way on the course to get disqualified. Going from pride and happiness to sadness and frustration happened so quickly. It took a bit of time and a whole lot of support and love to realize not all was lost yesterday. Yesterday was the worst day I’ve had in a while and then I wrote out my gratitude list and realized that’s a pretty good worst day.”
