Most people were probably counting on Cassandre Beaugrand and Georgia Taylor-Brown, but it was Germany’s Lisa Tertsch who just took the win at the Europe Triathlon Cup Quarteira. She did so after a very impressive run, in which she gave it her all until the last meters.

A shuffling of the field of competitors occurred early in the race and a leading group of just over ten women remained on the bike. During the bike this situation remained unchanged, but during the run much changed anyways. Only Tertsch, Beaugrand and Taylor-Brown stayed together and from then on made the race tough.

During the final ten kilometers, the pace was high and the women constantly alternated. Still, they kept running together the whole time. At least until the last two hundred meters, because then it was Tertsch who placed an acceleration at a tactically clever moment, right on a small descent, and with it surprised the other ladies.

The German athlete won the race in 1:58:52 and a few seconds later saw Beaugrand and Taylor-Brown take second and third.
