World Triathlon has announced that the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals will be held from October 15-19 in the town of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia.

Following the World Triathlon Cup, held in Wollongong in April this year, which also served as a test event, next year’s finals will see world champions crowned in the Elite, U23, Junior and Para triathlon and Para triathlon Mixed Relay categories. World champions will also be awarded in the Junior/U23 Mixed Relay, the Age-Group Standard distance, Age-Group Aquabike, Age-Group Sprint distance, and Age-Group Mixed Relays World Championships.

“Australia has repeatedly demonstrated its capability to host top-level triathlon events,” said World Triathlon President and IOC member, Marisol Casado.

“We are thrilled to return for the Championship Finals in 2025, after the great success of the Gold Coast back in 2009 and 2018. Wollongong, in particular, has proven to be an excellent host this year. With tough and honest courses for all, breathtaking landscapes, a supportive and proactive community, and a top-level organising committee, supported by the AusTriathlon, I am confident that the event will be another truly remarkable and unforgettable celebration of our sport.”

She continued, “Australia has proved multiple times that they are truly committed to our sport and deliver excellent events, and indeed Wollongong will follow the steps of other events that have marked the history of World Triathlon.”

AusTriathlon CEO Tim Harradine said “We are thrilled to officially begin the countdown to the 2025 Wollongong World Triathlon Championship Finals. After the tremendous success of the World Cup held in April, we are more than ready to welcome the world’s best athletes to Wollongong next year.

“Planning is already well underway, and we are working closely with our partners to deliver another world-class event that showcases the best of triathlon and all Wollongong has to offer. We are confident that next year’s finals will deliver an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.”

The 2025 Wollongong Championship Finals will kick off with the Parade of Nations and the Opening Ceremony on October 15. The first day of competition will be October 16, with Age-Group Standard Distance, Age-Group Aquabike, Junior Men, and Junior Women World titles up for grabs.

October 17, 2025 will be the turn for the Age-Group Sprint Distance World Championships, followed by the U23 Men and U23 Women World Championships. Saturday, October 18, will have the stage ready for the Para Triathlon World Championships and the Elite Women World Championship Finals.

The last day of competition will be October 19, with the Para Mixed Relay World Championships, Age-Group Mixed Relay World Championships, Junior/U23 Mixed Relay World Championships, and the Elite Men Championships Finals to close the event.

The Championship Finals is the highlight of World Triathlon’s annual calendar. Athletes from 61 countries were present in the last edition, hosted in Pontevedra, Spain, and the international governing body expects numbers to grow in the next two editions.

Previous hosts of the Championship Finals have included cities such as London, Budapest, Beijing, Auckland, Chicago, Gold Coast, Lausanne, Edmonton, Abu Dhabi, and Pontevedra, with the next edition traveling to Torremolinos, Spain, in October 2024.

The 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals Wollongong is proudly by the NSW Government through Destination NSW in collaboration with Wollongong City Council in a three-year partnership that will bring World Triathlon racing to Wollongong from 2024 to 2026.
