In just over a week, The Championship – Challenge Family’s flagship Middle Distance race where only the world’s best athletes will race – will take place, and once again this year there will be a magnificent pro field at the start. Some of the biggest favorites include Pieter Heemeryck, Frederic Funk, Fenella Langridge and India Lee.
Belgian Pieter Heemeryck and German Frederic Funk can undoubtedly look forward to an exciting battle between them in Samorin, Slovakia, but will also face men such as Rico Bogen, Kyle Smith, Jan Stratmann, Joe Skipper and Thomas Bishop. All of these men have numerous top performances on their records and will settle for nothing less than victory at The Championship. Outsiders are also there with men like Kacper Stepniak, Antonio Benito Lopez and James Teagle.
In the women’s race, British women seem to be top favorites: India Lee and Fenella Langridge are seen as the biggest contenders for victory, but Lucy Buckingham is also mentioned by the bookies. In addition, Dutch Els Visser is also considered a favorite, after finishing third at the PTO T100 in Singapore in recent weeks and then winning Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu and Challenge Taiwan.
In addition, with women like Caroline Pohle, Marta Sanchez, Kaidi Kivioja, Laura Madsen, Anna Bergsten and Margie Santimaria, there are plenty of strong outsiders at the start of the race.
The Championship will take place on Sunday, May 19.
