With a lightning-fast time of 14:53 minutes over 5 kilometers, Cassandre Beaugrand just got her season off to a flying start at the famous Monaco Run. Overall, the French Olympic triathlon champion finished 34th and with three women ahead of her she finished fourth, but her time was good for a new French National record.

Beaugrand announced earlier this week that she did not see the point of doing triathlons in February and would therefore kick off her season today with the run in Monaco. Beaugrand also indicated she did not know she would be able to improve the French record – which stood at 14:58 – but so she succeeded by a margin of five seconds.

The women’s race was won by Ethiopian Likina Amebaw, who crossed the line after 14:33. Dutch Diane van Es was second in 14:39 and Slovenian Klara Lukan was third in 14:45.
