Ironman Texas will definitely host a race with a stunning field, but with the cancellation of Lionel Sanders, at least one big name is missing. Sanders let it be known he will not take part in the race, which takes place April 26, as he fell ill after his victory at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside.

“Unfortunately, Texas wasn’t in the cards for me. The night after Oceanside I started getting sick and I’ve had a bad cough ever since. I needed every session between these races (Oceanside and Texas, ed.). My body was kind to me so I need to be kind to it and so I’m giving it the time it needs to recover fully and I’m excited to get back on the line in St. George (May 10, ed.).

Even without Sanders, Ironman Texas promises to be a huge spectacle. Among others Kristian Blummenfelt, Gustav Iden, Rudy von Berg, Leon Chevalier, Matthew Marquardt, Kristian Hogenhaug, Trevor Foley, Robert Kallin, Chris Leiferman, Antonio Benito, Matt Hanson, Ben Kanutre, Kieran Lindars and Daniel Baekkegard are on the start list.
