He was already on Kona, but won’t be competing on October 10: Casper Stornes suffered a severe crash during a training ride on The Big Island, breaking multiple bones. Last year’s winner will therefore be unable to defend his title in two weeks’ time.

Kona is currently being battered by a severe storm with high winds. A sudden wind gust caught Stornes while riding, taking out his front wheel and causing the Norwegian to crash. Stornes broke his collarbone and sustained a fracture to the third vertebra in his lower back, among other injuries. “Unfortunately, I won’t be out there this year and will have to come back next year,” he stated.
