Australian triathlon star Matthew Hauser delivered a masterclass performance at the Supertri Pro Series Final in Jersey, dominating the final stage to claim victory and take home the $100,000 top prize. New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde finished second, while Dutchman Mitch Kolkman made a stunning impression by taking third place.
The lucrative Supertri Pro Series Final brought together the world’s elite short-distance triathletes for a grueling multi-stage format: a 300-meter swim, 4-kilometer bike, and 1.6-kilometer run, repeated three consecutive times without rest. The high-tempo pace left no room for error, as athletes who fell more than 90 seconds behind the leader were immediately eliminated.
From the opening swim, Hauser stayed right at the front of a select lead pack. Heading into the third and final stage, Hauser was locked in a tactical battle with a elite group including Hayden Wilde, Mitch Kolkman, Csongor Lehmann, Seth Rider, and Luke Willian.
As the pace surged on the final bike leg, Willian was dropped, leaving five men to enter the final transition together for the deciding 1.6-kilometer run.
The final run turned into a dramatic showdown. Lehmann was hit with a time penalty, forcing him to serve extra time during the leg. Meanwhile, Wilde suffered a shoe mishap and was forced to run on just one sock, and Kolkman pushed hard to drop Lehmann and Rider behind him.
In the meantime, Hauser’s blistering run pace proved too strong for the rest of the field. He executed a brilliant recovery to cross the line first in 52:06, securing the title and the premier payout. Wilde crossed seven seconds later to claim second place, while Kolkman finished eleven seconds behind Hauser to complete the podium in third place.
