Just as he caused a stir in 2022 with what seemed like a crazy training less than a week before the Ironman World Championship on Kona, the Norwegian athlete has done it again: this past Sunday, Blummenfelt biked over 92 kilometers and then capped it off with a run of – hold on tight – 40 kilometers.

In 2022, Blummenfelt’s session made headlines worldwide. Joined by Gustav Iden, he rode nearly 100 kilometers at an average speed of over 37 km/h, followed by a 40-kilometer run at a pace of 3:46 min/km. This past Sunday, Blummenfelt executed virtually the same session, though the bike segment was a bit shorter but significantly faster.

Last Sunday, Blummenfelt covered 92.2 kilometers on the bike in 2:13:21, averaging 41.5 km/h. His 40-kilometer run was completed in 2:30hr, averaging 3:45 min/km. This brick session was completed just six days ahead of the Ironman World Championship.

Back in 2022, the unusual training strategy clearly paid off: six days later, Gustav Iden won the Ironman World Championship in Kona, with Kristian Blummenfelt placing third.
