It was one of the more popular races in the Netherlands, but The Ironman Group has terminated Ironman Maastricht’s license. That means the race – it was scheduled for August – will no longer take place this year.
“Today, The Ironman Group announced the termination of the license agreement with Extra Leisure B.V to operate Ironman events in the Netherlands. Despite all efforts from the parties involved, it has not been possible to find a suitable way forward for the partnership.”
“As a result of this unfortunate situation, regrettably, the 2023 Ironman 70.3 Maastricht-Limburg, 5150 Maastricht-Limburg and 4:18:4 Maastricht-Limburg triathlon events originally scheduled for 4 – 6 August 2023, will not be able to take place and will be discontinued.”
“We understand the disappointment caused by this news. All registered athletes to these events have been sent a communication including options for their entries. The Ironman 70.3 Westfriesland triathlon event weekend scheduled for 23 – 25 June 2023 will continue as planned with The Ironman Group taking over the event operation to reduce the impact on registered athletes hoping to race in the region.”
