Patrick Lange wins in Kona following Laura Phillip’s victory in Nice in September, bringing a rare double and further proof of the dominance of the leading long-distance triathlon bike.

Following Patrick Lange’s victory in Kona on Saturday 26th October, Canyon can claim an extraordinary double victory. Its Speedmax CFR bike took both the men’s and women’s titles at the 2024 Triathlon World Championships.

This landmark success underscores the Speedmax CFR’s unmatched aerodynamics, rider-focused engineering, and race-day reliability.

2024 marks Patrick Lange’s third Ironman world title, coming after his victories in 2017 and 2018, achieving a new course record in the process. His victory in Kona came following an astonishing performance on the run, overhauling the 9-minute gap to fellow Canyon athlete Sam Laidlow. However, it was Sam Laidlow who also left jaws dropping by being the first man to go under four hours on the 112-mile ride, setting a time of 3:57:22 on the Speedmax CFR.

Winning engineering

Both Laidlow and Lange, as well as Laura Phillip on her winning ride in Nice, were using Canyon’s so-far pro-only Speedmax CFR monocoque cockpit design, which has been configured to get athletes into the fastest and most comfortable position possible, offering significant time-saving advantages.

The pro-driven development process for the Speedmax began in 2015, engineered in partnership with leading athletes such as multi-time Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno and aerodynamics experts Swiss Side, and refined through hours of wind tunnel analysis and CFD simulations. This led to a Speedmax CFR frame sculpted for minimal drag, while its integrated hydration and storage solutions offered athletes access to nutrition without adding additional drag, setting a benchmark in triathlon, and laying the foundation for multiple world championship titles.

As Canyon celebrates this latest triumph, the Speedmax CFR continues to set the standard in triathlon racing, winning all but two of the men’s Ironman World Championship titles stretching back to 2015.

“Canyon’s new Speedmax CFR cockpit is another example of Canyon’s investment into the highest standards of performance, working with elite athletes to push the boundaries of cutting-edge bike design. It is indicative of everything we are working towards in triathlon, focusing on highest standards of design and quality to take material performance and athlete achievement to the next level,” said Canyon lead R&D engineer Lukas Schuchnigg.

Fans wait to get their hands on the new cockpit

The current Speedmax CFR design with its modular carbon cockpit and width and height adjustability out-of-the-box is available exclusively at Canyon.com or via the Canyon App. There is no official announcement yet on when fans will be able to get their hands on the new cockpit design, although it is always Canyon’s intention to bring CFR products to consumer levels.
