These are the LA 2028 Olympic Triathlon Courses

Olympic Triathlon courses LA 2028

A beach start, two (different) swim laps, eight bike laps featuring two technical sections, and finally four run laps heading towards a finish line set against the backdrop of the Venice Beach coastline: the initial details of the triathlon course for the LA 2028 Olympic Games have been presented.

The Olympic triathlons will take place on July 15 (women) and July 16 (men), 2028. The women’s race will notably be the very first medal event of the 2028 Olympic Games. Another unique moment will occur right at the start: for only the second time since triathlon became an Olympic sport in 2000, athletes will start from the beach rather than a pontoon. Athletes will first complete a 1,000-meter swim lap, followed by a 25-meter Aussie exit, and then a second swim lap of 500 meters.

The bike course comprises eight 5-kilometer laps featuring plenty of long, flat straights alongside a few technical sections. The route includes the Venice Bike Path as well as surrounding city streets. The run course also consists of multiple laps – four 2.5-kilometer laps, to be exact. It partially overlaps with the bike course while taking athletes across the bridges of the Venice Canals as well.

Mixed Team Relay

The Mixed Team Relay will take place on July 20. Each athlete – following the order of female, male, female, male per country – will start with a 350-meter swim lap, followed by two 3.3-kilometer bike laps, and finish with two 800-meter run laps.

Paralympic Triathlon

Paratriathletes competing in the PTWC, PTS2, PTS3, PTS4, PTS5, or PTVI classes will start their swim from a pontoon positioned outside the tide line. They will complete a single 750-meter swim lap, followed by three 6.6-kilometer bike laps and two 2.5-kilometer run laps.
