Ironman will stage its first-ever triathlon in Romania on Sunday, September 26, 2027, with the launch of IM 70.3 Mamaia-Constanța. The event marks the first 70.3-distance race taking place in the Black Sea and will serve as a qualifier for the 2028 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
Located along Romania’s Black Sea coast between the sea and Lake Siutghiol, Mamaia-Constanța was selected for its flat coastal terrain, established tourism infrastructure, and regional accessibility via Mihail Kogălniceanu International Airport alongside direct rail and road connections.
Course Breakdown
- Swim (1.9 km): A single-loop course in the Black Sea starting along the Mamaia shoreline. Expected water temperatures on race morning are approximately 16°C (61°F).
- Bike (90 km): A flat, single-loop route utilizing wide open coastal roads. The segment leads athletes out of Mamaia before routing toward the city center and historic districts of Constanța.
- Run (21.1 km): A flat course set along the Mamaia promenade, keeping athletes adjacent to the waterfront for the final discipline.
The addition of Mamaia-Constanța expands the European late-season race schedule, providing an additional qualification opportunity for athletes aiming for the 2028 70.3 World Championship.
