American Chelsea Sodaro will not be at the starting line of the Ironman World Championship today: the 2022 World Champion has just withdrawn due to the flu. The triathlete tested positive for Influenza A yesterday and is therefore unable to compete.
The decision not to race is naturally a tough one for Sodaro, who was set to compete fully healthy at the Ironman World Championship for the first time since 2022. Her young daughter had traveled to Kona specifically to cheer her on.
