They may have finished second at the Ironman World Championship on Kona last weekend, but those runner-up spots earned Gustav Iden and Laura Philipp a very lucrative financial reward: on the final possible day, both athletes accumulated enough points to climb to the top of the Ironman Pro Series standings, taking home a massive $200,000 bonus each.

For Solveig Løvseth, the Ironman World Championship in Kona proved particularly heartbreaking. In the final kilometer, her potential victory vanished as she succumbed to the severe heat, losing tens of minutes and dropping from first to eighth place. As a result, she saw Philipp leapfrog her in the Pro Series standings – a position shift worth $70,000. Løvseth still walks away with $130,000 for second place, while Kat Matthews finished third overall in the standings to earn $85,000. Newly crowned Ironman World Champion Taylor Knibb placed seventh in the final standings, taking home a $30,000 bonus.

Philipp secured her overall title in the Ironman Pro Series thanks to a third-place finish at Ironman 70.3 Pays d’Aix, second at Ironman Hamburg, victories at Ironman Sweden and Ironman 70.3 Zell am See, a sixth-place finish at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, and her runner-up performance at the Ironman World Championship in Kona.
