The 2014 Ironman world champion offered up some exciting news today on behalf of he and his wife Tine: “We’re expecting a little one this summer,” he says.
“It’s literally not possible to hide it anymore: One good thing that happened in 2020,” the German champion triathlete wrote.
It’s been a popular message, for sure – just a few hours after the post there were already 13,556 likes on Instagram, with lots of positive comments, while the Facebook announcement had received over 4,000 likes and 310 congratulatory comments.
We won’t expect this news to slow Kienle down at all. In 2019 he was the only man on the podium at the Ironman World Championship who wasn’t a parent – race-winner Jan Frodeno has two children, while runner-up Tim O’Donnell and his wife Mirinda Carfrae are expecting their second child later this year. Ben Hoffman, who took fourth, became a dad just weeks before the race – his wife Kelsey delivered baby Josephine in September. (Fifth-place finisher Cameron Wurf and wife Fallon had a child last year, which means that all of the top-five finishers from Kona in 2019 will be fathers when they return to Kona in 2021!)
