For top triathlete Sam Long corona didn’t just affect his professional career, it also had an impact on his relationship. The American athlete that finished in ninth place at the PTO 2020 Championship in December last year after taking wins at the PTO supported Bear Lake Half and Ironman 70.3 Cozumel and a third-place finish at Ironman Florida, felt like it was time for an honest Instagram post.

‘I’ve had decision paralysis’

“I know I often come off as ‘overly confident’ (cocky? call it whatever you want) so here is a moment of vulnerability. Motivation has been fickle recently. At the start of the season I see how much work has to be done to level up and it scares me. Do I have what it takes to bring my swimming up to the level I need? How do I work on the little details that allow my potential to be raised, not just getting more fit? Importantly, dealing with Covid-like issues: I haven’t seen my girlfriend in months and flying to see her requires taking two weeks off from swimming (quarantine). I’ve had decision paralysis. I know I need to just focus on the process and the joy of improving and the lifestyle of a triathlete. But, man, I just want to be a good swimmer!”
