Lahti, Finland to host the 2023 Ironman 70.3 World Championship

Ironman just announced via livestream that the 2023 Ironman 70.3 World Championship will be held in Lahti, Finland. Lahti was in the running to host the event with Klagenfurt, Austria, the home of Ironman Austria. Originally Lahti or Klagenfurt was to host the 70.3 World Championship in 2022, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been moved back a year.

This year, 2021, the Ironman 70.3 World Championship will be held in St. George, USA, while the 2022 edition moves to Taupo, New Zealand. There was no Ironman 70.3 World Championship held in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2019, the event was held in Nice, France, where Norway’s Gustav Iden and Switzerland’s Daniela Ryf prevailed. That makes them the reigning champions. “For us, it’s great to be able to host a World Championships in a different location every year and give athletes the opportunity to race everywhere,” Ironman CEO Andrew Messick said during today’s presentation.
