In a race that included almost exclusively Australian and New Zealand athletes (in the women’s race the exception was Dutch triathlete Lotte Wilms and in the men’s Czech David Martin), Australians Luke Willian and Jaz Hedgeland took the wins, with the men’s race coming down to a sprint.

Willian finished in 1:39:59, just one second ahead of his compatriot Matthew Hauser. New Zealand’s Tayler Reid didn’t concede much time, either and finished third with a time of 1:40:13.

Among the women, Hedgeland took the win in 1:50:58. Kelly-Ann Perkins, also an Australian, came in second, sixteen seconds behind the winner. Kira Hedgeland was third in a time of 1:51:38.
