Ukraine’s Yuliya Yelistratova claimed victory today at the Europe Triathlon Cup in Dnipro. In an exciting sprint finish with Norway’s Solveig Lovseth, Yelistratova felt the support from her home crowd and finished the race with the gold medal (57:24). Lovseth took silver and Britain’s Sophia Green completed the podium (+0:11).

After the swim it was Bianca Seregni who was in the lead. The Italian athlete took 11:02 to finish this first discipline. She was well ahead of her rivals with a six-second advantage once she reached her bike. Green and Slovenia’s Zuzana Michalickova followed in her footsteps and managed to join Seregni at the front.

Despite the rather large differences after the swim, the first three ladies – who formed a pack in the first kilometer – were soon caught by the chase pack of seven athletes. The ten women in that first group stayed together until T2.

On the run Yelistratova and Lovseth pushed the pace. After leaving the rest of the field behind, they battled for the win, with Yelistratova taking the final sprint. She claimed the victory in 57:24.
