Just before the Olympic women’s triathlon starts tomorrow at 23:30 CEST., it has been revealed that the Ukrainian Yuliya Yelistratova has tested positive for EPO.
That test was done two months ago – on June 5 at the Europe Triathlon Cup Dnipro. She won that race. World Triathlon was informed of the result yesterday by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Yelistratova is suspended with immediately and will not compete tomorrow at the Olympics. She can still appeal the result, but that will not allow her to participate in the Olympic race.
