Yesterday we talked about the men to keep an eye on at this weekend’s World Triathlon Series Montreal race, but when it comes to the women’s event, all eyes will likely be on Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Flora Duffy.
The race in Montreal will feature an “Eliminator” format that sees two qualifying events and a repechage on Friday, then a final with 30 athletes on Saturday that will include three super-sprint races. After the first 300 m swim, 7.2 km bike and 2 km run the field will be dropped to 20, and after the second down to 10. The last 10 athletes will race for the medals in a third race.
Duffy will race in the first qualifying race and will take on American silver medalists from the mixed team relay in Tokyo, Katie Zaferes and Taylor Knibb. Others to keep an eye on include Non Stanford (GBR), Leonie Periault (FRA) and hometown hero Amelie Kretz.
The second qualifying race includes Great Britain’s Olympic reserve for Tokyo, Sophie Coldwell, Americans Taylor Spivey and Kirsten Kasper, Laura Lindemann (GER) and strong-swimming Vittoria Lopes.
You can find start lists for the race here.
The races will be streamed on TriathlonLive from 11.15 am EST / 17.15 CEST.
