No fewer than four French men crossed the finish line first at the Europe Triathlon Cup Coimbra: it is rare for a country to be so dominant, but that was certainly the case today. Victory went to Maxime Hueber-Moosbrugger. In the women’s event, America’s Annie Fuller took the win, but behind her, another four French athletes followed.
In the men’s race, those four French athletes even had to sprint for the win, as the margins were tiny. Hueber-Moosbrugger proved to have the strongest final dash and ultimately crossed the line as the winner in 51:36. Adam Fouchal finished second in 51:38, and Achille Besson took third in 51:45. Baptiste Passemard was the fourth Frenchman, narrowly missing out on the podium.
In the women’s race, two athletes remained neck and neck right up to the finish line, but America’s Annie Fuller had the stronger kick, winning in a time of 57:55 and staying two seconds ahead of France’s Manon Laporte. Fellow French athlete Candice Denizot finished third in 58:29, staying just ahead of her compatriots Manon Pomme and Léonie Douche, who didn’t take home any medals but further highlighted the strength of the French women.
