Ironman welcomes a new race in Germany: Ironman 70.3 Erkner, in the state of Brandenburg. The race will take place on Sep. 11, 2022. Erkner is a small village with about 12,000 inhabitants and situated approximately twenty km east of Berlin, the country’s capital.
“We are delighted to be further growing the Ironman brand in Germany with the announcement of Ironman 70.3 Erkner in Brandenburg,” Thomas Veje Olsen, Head of Operations at Ironman Europe, Middle East and Africa, said in a press release. “Together with the organizers of the former Erkner Triathlon we will place our shared passion and love for the sport of triathlon to continue to create an exceptional event for our athletes.”
Participants of the Ironman 70.3 Erkner will start their race in the Dämeritzsee, a lake outside of Berlin. They will continue their race by riding 90 km along the Spree River to complete the one-lap bike course. The half-marathon is good for three laps, which takes athletes through the city center of Erkner, past the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Museum and past the Gerhart Hauptmann – winner of a Nobel Prize for literature – memorial.
