Originally launched in 2019, the Triton World Series has confirmed its return with a 2022 event roster of long, middle and short-distance multisport races. Kicking off the series, Triton Portugal has confirmed that two events will feature in Portugal. These will debut in the Algarve in April 2022 and in the north of Portugal in September 2022. Other events will be announced in due course.
The Algarve race will feature the following three distances:
- Short TRITON 1.5km swim – 60km bike – 12km run
- Middle TRITON 3.0km swim – 90km bike – 24km run
- Long TRITON 4.5km swim – 120km bike – 36km run
The three-day format will allow participants to ‘mix and match’ the distances or do one, two or all three sports (swim, bike or run).
Swims will take place 5km from Portimão. The bike course is draft legal, so no TT bikes are allowed, and will start and finish with a lap inside the Portimao race track. It will also feature a climb to the Foia at almost 1,000m high with some challenging inclines. The run will start in Portimão and go over the Arribas (cliffs) and Passadiços de Madeira (wooden beach walkway). All event courses are in a circuit format of one, two or three laps, depending on the distance chosen, making it spectator and support friendly.
Paulo Passos Leite, founder of Triton Portugal, said “We are delighted to announce the long awaited Triton Portugal in the spectacularly natural and beautiful Algarve region of Portugal. We look forward to welcoming competitors to the Pestana Blue Alvor and sharing the unique attributes of Triton Portugal with athletes from all over the world in the first race of the Triton world series.”
