The race was already on the schedule, but the date was yet to be announced, but yesterday Ironman made it clear: Ironman 70.3 Graz won’t happen in 2022. And it doesn’t seem like it will again in the future.
“After careful consideration and evaluation of various factors, we must inform you that the Ironman 70.3 Graz will not take place in 2022”, Ironman stated in a press release. “We want to extend our gratitude to our partners, supporters, and sponsors, and we would like to thank all our loyal athletes and the thousands of volunteers. Every one of you made the inaugural edition in Styria one to remember.”
While it remains unclear what the actual reason is, a possible explanation could be the renewed city council. Since Ironman wants to offer a Middle Distance in the lead up to Ironman Austria, the country will possibly welcome another 70.3 event – besides Ironman 70.3 Zell am See – to the calendar in 2023 again.
For athletes wishing to race a Middle Distance in Austria in the spring of 2022, Challenge St. Pölten could be a great alternative.
