“There is no easy way. Do it the hard way… I will lot race challenge Roth next weekend.” What should have been one of the highlight races of Sebastian Kienle’s two-year “goodbye tour” is not happening. The German pro triathlete withdraws from Challenge Roth (Jul. 3, 2022), as he’s not fit enough to race.
“This is obviously a very difficult decision for us, since I know very well that this is probably one of the last opportunities to race on a stage like that and in a field like that”, he explains. “The reason is quite frankly that I’m not in shape. I’ve caught COVID-19 in the US before or after the race in St. George, that’s still unclear. But what is clear is that it cost me almost three weeks of good training, and I’m still struggling a bit. I was on a good track, but then in Livigno (Italy, ed.) five days ago I crashed on the bike. Nothing major: just a little skin left on the road and some bruises, but that again took like 3 or 4 days to get back to training. Therefor, we decided to not race.”
