Not Svenja Thoes, not Alexandra Tondeur, not Lena Berlinger or Nina Derron: Barbara Riveros just won the Triathlon l’Alpe d’Huez. With that, the Chilean pr:ofessional athlete provides a nice surprise and, above all, a great performance.

Riveros took the lead in the race immediately during the swim – together with the Frenchwoman Lena Vaillier – and came out of the water after just over 30 minutes. When her 2.2-kilometer swim was over and her 110-kilometer bike began, the Chilean therefore had a great position already.

The bike course was tough with many altimeters and of course the climb up l’Alpe d’Huez, but the Chilean handled it well and proved supreme on the bike. She rode minutes faster than her competitors, laying the groundwork for her victory.

When Riveros took the race after 6:35:00, it appeared that she did lose a few minutes during the run, but Svenja Thoes finished second and within respectable distance with 6:43:39. Alexandra Tondeur finished third in 6:55:08.

Here you’ll find our race report on the men’s race.
