What a day for Spain’s Helene Alberdi Sololuze, who gets to call herself European Champion Middle Distance triathlon after winning today’s race in Bilbao. Second place was taken by Spain’s Judith Corachan Vaquero and the third and final podium spot was for Portugal’s Raquel Rocha. Only nine athletes battled for the medals today in Bilbao, still in front of the field there was some nice competition.

After the swim part, Alberdi Sololuze was already leading with twenty seconds to Rocha and about one minute to the third lady: Corachan Vaquero. On the bike, these first three women were a great match, as they stayed relatively close to each other, which means it all came down to the run. It wasn’t even with a great margin, but after 4:14:45 hours, Alberdi Sololuze got to celebrate the victory. Corachan Vaguero claimed silver 1:08 minutes later, while bronze went home with Rocha (+5:23).
