He was on fire during the third and final discipline. Spain’s Antonio Benito Lopez just owned the European Championship Middle Distance in Bilbao. He shared the podium with Belgium’s Christophe de Keyser and Germany’s Rico Bogen, who took second and third respectively.

Benito Lopez had to accept three athletes in front of him after the swim part. On the bike, he started to move up and that saw Benito Lopez pass by De Keyser, who had a strong swim and showed to be Benito Lopez’ toughest competitor of the day. On the run, there was no stopping Benito Lopez, though. The Spanish athlete noted a time of 1:08:35 hours on the half-marathon, which was much faster than all other athletes. It resulted in Benito Lopez taking a big win.

Second place was taken by De Keyser, who finished nearly five minutes later, while Bogen claimed the final podium spot (+5:42).
