[VIDEO] Lionel Sanders on comparing new generation to Jan Frodeno: ‘That’s so fucking ridiculous’

While in recent years we have been able to enjoy an emerging generation of top athletes together – with Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden in particular playing leading roles – Jan Frodeno seemed to have a little more trouble with the current level. The German, of course still regarded as the GOAT (greatest of all time, ed.), skipped races more often and suffered a little more from injuries. In a candid interview with the PTO, one of Frodeno’s rivals, Canadian Lionel Sanders, indicated that it is still far too early to compare the young guys to Frodeno, and in doing so, he winds up blatantly.

When asked by the PTO what Lionel Sanders thinks about the fact that many people – including media – often indicate that the ‘torch has been passed’, Sanders is very clear. “That’s so fucking ridiculous and disrespectful. The fact of the matter, these guys have never raced Jan. Jan lifted this sport. Period. These guys are getting on Jan’s level. They’ve not beat him and they’ve not raced him. Fuck that. Jan could have got five cigarettes at the finish line before second place came in.”
