Stating that it has ‘a commitment to sustainability and an ambitious racing schedule’, World Triathlon has announced its 2025 season calendar.
The World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) season will commence slightly earlier than usual, with the WTCS Abu Dhabi opening event taking place on February 14-15, 2025. This city in the UAE has a history of hosting top-tier World Triathlon events. In 2025 it will also host a World Triathlon Mixed Relay Series event on the same weekend.
Following Abu Dhabi, the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) will head to WTCS Yokohama, on May 17, 2025. This race in Japan will then be followed by a new addition to the series, Sardinia, Italy, at the end of May, with the new event location to be announced soon.
Another longstanding event in the calendar, Hamburg, will once again host a leg of the WTCS season as well as the Mixed Relay World Championships in July; while Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic is stepping up from a World Cup event to a WTCS fixture with a challenging course inSeptember.
The Championship Finals return to Australia in 2025 for the first time since the Gold Coast championships in 2018, with Wollongong gearing up to crown the next world champions in October 2025.
World Triathlon Cups
The World Triathlon Cup circuit will continue to provide a racing scenario for emerging talents and seasoned athletes to compete in a variety of locations in Europe, South America, Asia and Oceania.
Para Triathlon Events
Inclusivity is a cornerstone of the World Triathlon ethos, and the 2025 calendar will deliver a calendar of Para Triathlon Series and Cups, fostering opportunities for paratriathletes of all classes to showcase their talents on the world stage.
Multisport World Championships
The multisport calendar will include competitions in different regions, with the Winter Triathlon and Duathlon World Championships returning to Pragelato, Italy, and the Multisport World Championships to be held in Pontevedra, Spain.
Alsdorf, in Germany, will host the Middle Distance Long Distance Duathlon Championships, while Zofingen will organise the 2025 Long Distance Duathlon Championships.
Sustainability
World Triathlon notes that it is committed to making the events and the season calendar as sustainable as possible.
‘This commitment not only reflects the organisation’s values but also enhances the overall experience for athletes and fans alike, ensuring that the events leave a positive impact on our host communities.’
Reflecting on the upcoming season, World Triathlon President and IOC Member Marisol Casado said “I want to express our gratitude to every single city and local organising committee (LOC) that has stepped forward to host a World Triathlon event in 2025, from the smaller ones to the Championship Finals.
“We know the effort that hosting an event takes for these great cities, the LOCs and national federations, but we will continue to work to put together season calendars that are sustainable, while offering magnificent scenarios for athletes to showcase their talents on a global stage.”
