Hayden Wilde may have been the man in shape and had a great race schedule lined up, but at least for now, a huge red cross can be added to it: the New Zealander, runner-up at the Paris Olympics last year, was hit by a car on his bike, breaking his scapular and four ribs.
Wilde was hit in Japan, where just a day earlier he was competing in the Tokyo Speed Run and recorded a lightning-fast 27:39 minutes over ten kilometers. The collision also damaged his lungs, preventing him from flying and thus from heading home for the time being.
Wilde is having a great season so far, including wins at the WTCS Abu Dhabi and T100 Singapore.
