Magnus Ditlev was eager to race, and his fans were looking forward to seeing the Dane compete at the highest level once again, but it’s not meant to be. Ditlev fell ill over the past few days and has withdrawn from the Ironman Texas start list due to a case of shingles.
Ditlev woke up a few days ago with a high fever, which turned out to be a symptom of shingles. After consulting with doctors, the decision was made for Ditlev to return home immediately, meaning he will not be lining up in Texas.
“I’ve been looking forward to this race for a long time and put together seven great weeks of altitude training, but sometimes the body has other plans. A few days ago, I woke up with fever feeling seriously unwell, which turned out to be shingles. After consulting with doctors and my team, we made the tough call to travel home. Now focus is on getting healthy again and then hopefully hit an Ironman start line soon.”
Ironman Texas takes place this coming Saturday, April 18. Even with the absence of Magnus Ditlev, the event boasts an exceptionally strong and deep field of competitors. Full list of participants here.
