Garmin has announced that it has acquired TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic. With this move, the manufacturer of bike computers, navigation systems, and sports watches instantly acquires two of the most well-known training platforms for endurance athletes in general, and triathletes in particular. The financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Triathletes will be paying particular attention to the acquisition of TrainingPeaks; this software is immensely popular for creating training plans, as well as analyzing and monitoring performance. Coaches frequently use it to keep track of their athletes’ progress. Garmin has actually been collaborating with TrainingPeaks for a long time, but now the latter officially falls under the former’s umbrella.
Users don’t need to worry about immediate changes; according to Garmin, both TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic will continue to function as they currently do. Through this acquisition, Garmin primarily aims to expand its own ecosystem, while also hoping it will lead to more personalized coaching, better training insights, and tighter integration between hardware and software.
