Runners crossing the finish line at the Sydney Marathon next week will receive a rather unique medal: the organization made an error and engraved the wrong stadium. Instead of Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, the medal depicts Munich’s Allianz Arena.
Speculation about the mistake had already begun after organizers posted an image of the medal on social media. Observant fans noticed it didn’t feature Sydney’s venue – known for its flatter facade and finish of long bronze fins – but rather Munich’s iconic arena, which is constructed from thousands of diamond-shaped inflatable cushions.
