With a impressive display of dominance, Georgia Taylor-Brown won today’s final regular WTCS race of the season in Karlovy Vary, taking top honors after working together with Taylor Spivey and Therese Feuersinger for nearly the entire race.
The three athletes found each other quickly on the bike and set off on a breakaway as a trio. In T1, athletes like Beth Potter, Lisa Tertsch, Márta Kropkó, Sian Rainsley, Kate Waugh, and Laura Lindemann were still close by, but no one could keep pace with the Austrian, American, and British triathletes on the bike. Feuersinger, Spivey, and Taylor-Brown saw their lead grow rapidly, pulling ahead to a 2:28 gap over the chase group by T2.
While the podium spots seemed all but settled – aside from the final order – that proved not to be entirely true. As Taylor-Brown immediately took the initiative on the run, Spivey managed to hold on briefly, but Feuersinger quickly dropped off the pace. She would ultimately fall back to a fifth-place finish, over two minutes behind the winner.
That winner was indeed Taylor-Brown, who left Spivey no chance of stealing the victory. Taylor-Brown won in 2:03:05, with Spivey finishing second in 2:03:41. Tertsch ultimately claimed third in 2:04:33.
