Spain’s Javier Gomez started the year off like no other triathlete, as he won the first Ironman event of 2022: Ironman 70.3 Pucon, Chile. Also, the former short-distance star athlete decided to make a move to long-distance racing, and he signed with a new bike partner. That means, it’s time for a new coach. After working with Carlos Prieto for nine years – winning five world titles and an Olympic silver medal, among others – Gomez decided to ask the help of a new coach: Britain’s Dan Plews.
He’s a big name in the world of triathlon, as Plews already coaches Spain’s Pablo Dapena Gonzalez – who grew up together with Gomez in Pontevedra, Spain – and athletes like Swiss’ Jan van Berkel, Australia’ Tim van Berkel and New Zealand’s Terenzo Bozzone.
Plews himself has a nice track record when it comes to triathlon, too. According to his Instagram bio, Plews holds the record of the fastest Age Grouper on Kona with a time of 8:24 hours.
