There was no stopping Marten van Riel last Saturday, during Ironman 70.3 Dubai. The short-distance talent showed to have a talent for the longer distance too, as he nearly ran himself towards a new Ironman 70.3 world record. That he could still run so fast – a 1:07:56 hour half-marathon – is even more impressive if you see a photo of his shoes from after the race. Van Riel’s left shoe is covered in blood.
“No socks half Ironman is a vibe”, Van Riel wrote on Instagram under a photo of his Nike Vaporfly’s that are now ruined.
