Ironman has posted the start list for Ironman 70.3 Geelong on Feb. 21, with the winners of the weekend’s Hell of the West Triathlon in Australia – Ellie Salthouse and Steve McKenna getting set to go after another win.
2021 Ironman 70.3 Geelong Pro Start List
Last year’s men’s champion Josh Amberger is back to defend his title, taking on last year’s third-place finisher, Tim Van Berkel, and the fourth-place finisher from last year, Tim Reed (the 2016 Ironman 70.3 world champion). McKenna, fresh off his win by just a few seconds at the Hell of the West event, won’t have to take on the man who came second on the weekend, Simon Hearn.
Salthouse and Watkinson round 2
New Zealand’s Amelia Watkinson took last year’s Ironman Asia Pacific Championship at Ironman Cairns, which puts her at the top of the start list on the 21st since defending champion Hannah Wells is not on the entry list. On the weekend Watkinson finished second to Salthouse, finishing just under five-minutes behind the Australian.
Both will face some stiff competition in Geelong, including Last year’s runner up, Grace Thek, multiple half-distance champ Annabel Luxford and last year’s third-place finisher in Cairns, Renee Kiley.
Geelong is about 75 km outside of Melbourne and is the second-largest city in the state of Victoria.
