Former pro triathlete Lucy Gossage still has more than excellent fitness – and that’s an understatement – because she has won the leaden Montane Winter Spine. The 268-mile trail run – about 430 kilometers – which is run in one stretch, traverses inhospitable terrain and leads participants over more than 10,000 altimeters. Gossage reached the finish line after 87 hours, 41 minutes and 38 seconds.

This left the British former pro triathlete well ahead of runner-up Robyn Cassidy, who crossed the line after 94:31:43. The third woman is still running at the time of writing and thus is not at the finish line. In the overall standings, Gossage only let three men ahead of her: Kim Collison (GBR) won the race in 82:46:32, Dave Phillips (GBR) was second in 85:58:05 and Tiaan Erwee (RSA) was third in 86:05:09.

The race is considered the toughest race in Great Britain and runs along the so-called Pennine Way, which starts in Edale (Derbyshire) and then reaches its finishing point at Kirk Yetholm, near the Scottish border.
